Di Na Muli was written in 2016 by long-time friends Jazz Nicolas and Wally Acolola. They entered the song into the 5th Philippine Popular (PhilPop) Music Festival, performed by The Itchyworms, where it won the grand prize. Now, in 2018, the song has been given new life in the official soundtrack of the hit film Sid & Aya (Not A Love Story) (Viva Films, starring Dingdong Dantes and Anne Curtis, directed by Irene Villamor).

Somewhere in between PhilPop and Sid & Aya, the Itchyworms set out to immortalize the song in the perfect music video. Help came along in the form of director Juno Oebanda, longtime friend of the band, and the generous indulgence of none other than the Cultural Center of the Philippines. The link to the CCP is Teddy Hilado (d. 2015), recognized as the father of lighting design in Philippine theater, who is also the uncle of Oebanda.  The song's themes of love, loss, and words left unspoken, are embodied in the elegant performances of Rosky Balahadia Hilado (Teddy's widow, formerly of the Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company) and Carissa Adea (Ballet Philippines), and in the video's sweeping visuals, all captured within the hallowed halls of the CCP. The music video seeks to serve as loving tribute to Teddy, whose influence is still felt and recognized to this day.  The Itchyworms are now proud to share what is probably the first-ever music video shot inside the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and extend heartfelt thanks to those who helped bring the music video to fruition.  Youtube link for Di Na Muli official music video: https://youtu.be/rgHHJkzn5TU

Verse:
Nung araw kay tamis ng ating buhay
Puno ng saya at ng kulay
Di mauulit muli

Ang oras kapag hinayaang lumipas
Madarama mo hanggang bukas
Di mababawi muli

Chorus:

Patawad muli

Binawi buhay mo ng walang sabi
Binubulong ko sa sarili

Game of Drones takes to the skies for the second time

A stratospheric high took over everyone as Game of Drones: 2nd Flight, the country’s biggest and only drone competition, took off on May 26, 2018.

High-flying teams came together at The Bike Playground at the Circulo Verde, the city’s newest entertainment and lifestyle destination that has become a haven for those who love one-of-a-kind adventures.

Game of Drones: 2nd Flight is one such event, which provided FPV (First-Person View) pilots and drone enthusiasts an opportunity to show off their flying skills without having to wander far from the city, thanks to The Bike Playground’s wide open spaces which is ideal for those who love to fly drones.

The contest covered three categories – Time Trial, the Rotorcross finals, and Drone Photography, all of which allowed participants to battle in various contests for supremacy of the skies.

Time Trial is a spec/open class category, where competitors raced to fly their drone across the 300-meter track for one lap. With up to four pilots per race, the winner Jerico Taleon, flew his drone within the shortest time took home a cash prize of P30,000. Runners-up were Marlon Caras and Mark Cometa.

Rotocross is a spec class game. For this, participants were again grouped into batches of four for the elimination round. They flew their drones through a marked course, and the racers who finished first per batch moved up the ladder of eliminations. In the evening, the finals were held to determine the Rotocross Champion. Repeat winner Jerico Taleon received a P20,000, a trophy, plus items from sponsors. Runners-up were Danny Formentera and Axlsoy Godinez.

Drone Photography is an opportunity for photography enthusiasts to take breathtaking aerial shots within the Circulo Verde vicinity. The top ten submitted entries were shown at the venue for judging, and the winner who took home P5,000 was Lawrence Samaco.

On ground, there was as much excitement as that in the skies. Treats were available for everyone thanks to food stalls and sponsors’ booths that have ensured that everyone was revved up for a whole day of fun.

Drone hobbyists, enthusiasts, novice racers, and those who just want a taste of some outdoor fun were present to experience and watch as the drones battled for supremacy of the skies.
The Bike Playground is located within Circulo Verde, Calle Industria, Quezon City, a 10-hectare master-planned mixed-use community envisioned by its developers, Ortigas & Co., to become an active lifestyle destination.

Cybersecurity threats to cost organizations in the Philippines US$3.5 billion in economic losses

Microsoft and Frost & Sullivan Study reveals that:

A large-sized organization in the Philippines can possibly incur an economic loss of US$7.5 million, more than 200 times the average economic loss for a mid-sized organization
Cybersecurity attacks have led to job losses in seven in ten (72%) organizations over the last year
Cybersecurity concerns delay Digital Transformation plans
Organizations are increasingly leveraging Artificial Intelligence to enhance their cybersecurity strategy

A Frost & Sullivan study commissioned by Microsoft revealed that the potential economic loss in the Philippines due to cybersecurity incidents can hit a staggering US$3.5 billion. This is 1.1 percent of the Philippines’ total GDP of US$305 billion[1].

The study, titled “Understanding the Cybersecurity Threat Landscape in Asia Pacific: Securing the Modern Enterprise in a Digital World”, aims to provide business and IT decision makers with insights on the economic cost of cybersecurity breaches in the region and identify the gaps in organizations’ cybersecurity strategies. The study involved a survey of 1,300 business and IT decision makers ranging from mid-sized organizations (250 to 499 employees) to large-sized organizations (>than 500 employees).

The study reveals that more than half of the organizations surveyed in the Philippines have either experienced a cybersecurity incident (18%) or are not sure if they had one as they have not performed proper forensics or data breach assessment (34%).

“As companies embrace the opportunities presented by cloud and mobile computing to connect with customers and optimize operations, they take on new risks,” said Hans Bayaborda, Managing Director, Microsoft Philippines. “With traditional IT boundaries disappearing the adversaries now have many new targets to attack. Companies face the risk of significant financial loss, damage to customer satisfaction and market reputation — as has been made all too clear by recent high-profile breaches.”

The True Cost of Cybersecurity Incidents – Economic, Opportunity and Job Losses

The study revealed that:

A large-sized organization in the Philippines can possibly incur an economic loss of US$7.5 million, more than 200 times higher than the average economic loss for a mid-sized organization (US$35,000); and
Cybersecurity attacks have resulted in job losses across different functions in seven in ten (72%) organizations that have experienced an incident over the last 12 months.

To calculate the cost of cybercrime, Frost & Sullivan has created an economic loss model based on macro-economic data and insights shared by the survey respondents. This model factors in three kinds of losses which could be incurred due to a cybersecurity breach:

Direct: Financial losses associated with a cybersecurity incident - this includes loss of productivity, fines, remediation cost, etc;
Indirect: The opportunity cost to the organization such as customer churn due to reputation loss; and
Induced: The impact of cyber breach to the broader ecosystem and economy, such as the decrease in consumer and enterprise spending.

“Although the direct losses from cybersecurity breaches are most visible, they are but just the tip of the iceberg,” said Edison Yu, Vice President and Asia Pacific Head of Enterprise for Frost & Sullivan. “There are many other hidden losses that we have to consider from both the indirect and induced perspectives, and the economic loss for organizations suffering from cybersecurity attacks can be often underestimated.”

In addition to financial losses, cybersecurity incidents are also undermining the Philippines organizations’ ability to capture future opportunities in today’s digital economy, with more than half (57%) respondents stating that their enterprise has put off digital transformation efforts due to the fear of cyber-risks.

Key Cyberthreats and Gaps in the Philippines Organizations’ Cybersecurity Strategies

Although high-profile cyberattacks, such as ransomware, have been garnering a lot of attention from enterprises, the study found that for organizations in the Philippines that have encountered cybersecurity incidents, data exfiltration and data corruption are the biggest concern as they have the highest impact with the slowest recovery time.

Besides external threats, the research also revealed key gaps in organizations’ cybersecurity approach to protect their digital estate:

Security an afterthought: Only 44% of organizations consider cybersecurity before the start of a digital transformation project. Majority of respondents (56%) either think about cybersecurity only after they start on the project or do not consider it at all. This limits their ability to conceptualize and deliver a “secure-by-design” project, potentially leading to insecure products going out into the market;

Creating a Complex Environment: Negating the popular belief that deploying a large portfolio of cybersecurity solutions will render stronger protection, the survey revealed that 17% of respondents with more than 50 cybersecurity solutions could recover from cyberattacks within an hour. In contrast, more than twice as many respondents (38%) with fewer than 10 cybersecurity solutions responded that they can recover from cyberattacks within an hour; and

Lacking cybersecurity strategy: While more and more organizations are considering digital transformation to gain competitive advantage, the study has shown that 46% of respondents see cybersecurity strategy only as a means to safeguard the organization against cyberattacks rather than a strategic business enabler. A mere 25% of organizations see cybersecurity strategy as a digital transformation enabler.

“The ever-changing threat environment is challenging, but there are ways to be more effective using the right blend of modern technology, strategy, and expertise,” added Hans. “Microsoft is empowering businesses in the Philippines to take advantage of digital transformation by enabling them to embrace the technology that’s available to them, securely through its secure platform of products and services, combined with unique intelligence and broad industry partnerships.”

Artifical Intelligence (AI) is the Next Frontier in Cybersecurity Defense

In a digital world where cyberthreats are constantly evolving and attack surface is rapidly expanding, AI is becoming a potent opponent against cyberattacks as it can detect and act on threat vectors based on data insights. The study reveals that more than almost four in five (79%) organizations in the Philippines have either adopted or are looking to adopt an AI approach towards boosting cybersecurity.

AI’s ability to rapidly analyze and respond to unprecedented quantities of data is becoming indispensable in a world where cyberattacks’ frequency, scale and sophistication continue to increase.

An AI-driven cybersecurity architecture will be more intelligent and be equipped with predictive abilities to allow organizations to fix or strengthen their security posture before problems emerge. It will also grant companies with the capabilities to accomplish tasks, such as identifying cyberattacks, removal of persistent threats and fixing bugs, faster than any human could, making it an increasingly vital element of any organizations’ cybersecurity strategy.

Recommendations for securing the modern enterprise in a digital world

AI is but one of the many aspects that organizations need to incorporate or adhere to in order to maintain a robust cybersecurity posture. For a cybersecurity practice to be successful, organizations need to consider People, Process and Technology, and how each of these contributes to the overall security posture of the organization.

To help organizations better withstand and respond to cyberattacks and malware infections, here are five best practices that they can consider in improving their defense against cybersecurity threats:

Position cybersecurity as a digital transformation enabler: Disconnect between cybersecurity practices and digital transformation effort creates a lot of frustration for the employees. Cybersecurity is a requirement for digital transformation to guide and keep the company safe through its journey. Conversely, digital transformation presents an opportunity for cybersecurity practices to abandon aging practices to embrace new methods of addressing today’s risks;

Continue to invest in strengthening your security fundamentals: Over 90% of cyber incidents can be averted by maintaining the most basic best practices.  Maintaining strong passwords, conditional use of multi-factor authentication against suspicious authentications, keeping device operating systems, software and anti-malware protection up-to-date and genuine can rapidly raise the bar against cyberattacks. This should include not just tool-sets but also training and policies to support a stronger fundamental;

Maximize skills and tools by leveraging integrated best-of-suite tools. The best tools are useless in the hands of the amateur. Reduce the number of tools and the complexity of your security operations to allow your operators to hone their proficiency with the available tools. Prioritizing best-of-suite tools is a great way to maximize your risk coverage without the risk of introducing too many tools and complexity to the environment. This is especially true if tools within the suite are well-integrated to take advantage of their counterparts;

Assessment, review and continuous compliance: The organization should be in a continuous state of compliance. Assessments and reviews should be conducted regularly to test for potential gaps that may occur as the organization is rapidly transforming and address these gaps. The board should keep tab on not just compliance to industry regulations but also how the organization is progressing against security best practices; and

Leverage AI and automation to increase capabilities and capacity: With security capabilities in short supply, organizations need to look to automation and AI to improve the capabilities and capacity of their security operations. Current advancements in AI has shown a lot of promise, not just in raising detections that would otherwise be missed but also in reasoning over how the various data signals should be interpreted with recommended actions. Such systems have seen great success in cloud implementations where huge volumes of data can be processed rapidly. Ultimately, leveraging automation and AI can free up cybersecurity talents to focus on higher-level activities.

Bubbleman  Dishwashing Travel Companion

Whenever we go out of town or take a vacation, bubbleman is always on the list of things to bring. Since we tried using bubbleman we never bought other brand because we are satisfied with the cleaning effect it does to the dishes and kitchen utensils. It is gentle to the hands and the scent is so good. I personally like the blue one which is the bubblegum. Lemon is so common to other dishwashing soap so it is not that unique but the effect of bubbleman is really nice. My daughter usually washes the dishes and my husband when he is on vacation. So they also saw the difference when we use other brand.

This is how I use bubbleman while cleaning Greased Dishes and  utensils.
Before I used to soak it more than an hour with water and dish washing soap. But with bubbleman no need to soak it for a longer time because the grease can easily be remove.

I will absolutely recommend it to follow Mom who wants to keep their soft hands. We always carry bubble man on trips and vacation.

How do you find your perfect one?

There are different ways to know if you are compatible with somebody or something. May it be in a relationship, business, belief, career, buying properties or sometimes stuff like (shoes, bags, clothes even make-up).

There are some things we consider in finding our perfect match or forever.

1.Compatibility- you must hava a common interest or common ground. If you don't have the same thinking or likes the relationship or business will not prosper.

2. Comfortable in buying clothes or stuff we want something that will match our body frame, skin tone, hair color or anything that will make us comfortable.

3. Patient- you will adjust at times, since you agreed with some things then yoi must support each others weakness. Neither of you have the same capabilities sometimes you are strong in one area.

4. Trust- when buying properties or consider venturing in a business there must be trust. Since it will be a step of faith to invest we it has to be a reliable company or person.

Same thing with Sunlife it will help us find the perfect match that will suit our needs. May it be an investment, retirement, educational needs they can adjust in your lifestyle.

Read more about what Sunlife has instore for you and your family and friend.

They have a new app that you can download and look for the perfect financial advisor for you.

June is Financial Independence Month
Have you met your PERFECT MATCH?

With the rise of do-it-yourself financial planning, more Filipinos can now take charge of their hard-earned money. But despite the growing information and advice on personal finance, many still lack an investing mindset. This means looking beyond traditional savings instruments to achieve future goals. In fact, Sun Life’s SOLAR (Study of Lifestyle and Relationships) reveals that only 38% of Filipinos are willing to take investment risks in order to earn more and that only 8% actually invest.  Furthermore, only 16% claim to have life insurance despite 88% of Filipinos worrying about their financial situation in case something happens to the breadwinner.

Clearly, many Filipinos still need guidance and advice on how to achieve lifetime financial security. A role that a Sun Life Financial Advisor can fulfill with their professionalism, a caring attitude, a winning mindset, and an inspired vision.

It’s a brilliant match!

In time for the Financial Independence Month of June, Sun Life puts the spotlight on the value of meeting a trusted financial partner via the #SunLifePerfectMatch campaign. Here, the country’s first and #1 life insurer aims to educate Filipinos on choosing the right Financial Advisor to help them with your financial goals. And with the Advisor Match tool, your perfect Sun Life advisor may just be a click away.

How does it work? Simply go to our website to access Advisor Match. Enter your location to generate a list of advisors in your vicinity. Each profile contains a short description of their credentials and how they can extend help – a very nifty way to show you what they have to offer. Such freedom to choose a Financial Advisor is both innovative and relevant, especially for consumers who want personalized service on-demand and at their convenience.

Make your brighter choice!

More than a handy online tool, Advisor Match is about empowering Filipinos to be more exacting and selective when looking for a financial partner. A series of online videos called “My Dream Advisor” puts a humorous twist on the challenging journey that comes with seeking one’s perfect advisor match. Taking a cue from the 90s dating game shows, the videos feature searchers faced with a rather disappointing line-up of advisor searchees – each embodying undesirable characteristics that have unfairly stereotyped life insurance agents for the longest time.

For its part, Sun Life emphasizes four core values that every financial advisor should possess: (1) professional in doing business; (2) one who cares for your welfare; (3) a desire to win for your dreams; and (4) an inspiring commitment to serve rather than sell.  These values define Sun Life’s over 11,000 financial advisors. “We’ve seen a growing interest in personal finance lately with the number of inquiries and requests for advisor referrals doubling the past couple of years.  We are happy to share that we are now empowering Filipinos to choose their very own Sun Life Advisor with just the click of a button. With Sun Life’s Advisor Match, they can be assured of finding competent and committed financial advisors to help them achieve their financial goals,” affirmed Sun Life Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Ms. Mylene Lopa. The International Society of Hypertension (ISH) encourages you to #CheckThePressure as we observe May Measurement Month (MMM,) an initiative that grew out of World Hypertension Day launched to raise awareness around blood pressure worldwide in 2005. ISH is bringing this to the Philippines together with the Department of Health (DOH,) Filipinos can get their blood pressure checked at health centers, rural health units, health centers, barangay health stations, and other healthcare facilities across the nation for the whole month of May.

Despite being the number 1 contributing risk factor for global death as it causes strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular complications claiming 10 million deaths each year—only half of those with high blood pressure know they even have it. There are no symptoms and some people only find out they have it after they are diagnosed with a disease or suffer a heart attack or stroke. Don’t be the next statistic, one step to being prepared is to #CheckThePressure.

MMM grew out of World Hypertension Day, which was launched by the WHL in 2005 to raise awareness around blood pressure worldwide. May Measurement has expanded this into a global synchronised screening campaign and took place for the first time during May 2017.  Over 100 countries took part in the inaugural year and screened over 1.2 million people, making this the world’s largest public blood pressure screening programme. Our data analysis from this massive screening will allow us to collect scientific evidence to influence healthy policy around blood pressure screening.

MMM18 to increase BP awareness, treatment and control

Philippines one of the global leaders in this worldwide campaign

Hypertension remains our ‘Public Enemy’ No. 1—the Number 1 killer or cause of deaths worldwide and in the Philippines. Cardiovascular diseases including high BP account for 33 percent or nearly one third of all deaths in the Philippines every year.

“Worldwide, around 10 million lives are lost each year needlessly due to raised blood pressure,” warns Professor Neil Poulter, president of the International Society of Hypertension (ISH).
Prof. Poulter adds that ISH, with its collaborating organizations worldwide, want to change this with  massive BP awareness campaigns such as the May Measurement Month (MMM).
In the Philippines, MMM is spearheaded by the Philippine Society of Hypertension (PSH) in collaboration with a Hypertension Alliance composed of the Department of Health, Department of Education, Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), Philippine Heart Association and more than 20 governmental and non-governmental organizations.
For this year, the month-long MMM18 was launched during the PCP annual convention at the SMX Convention Center recently. It was attended by representatives from all collaborating organizations
“MMM puts the spotlight on increasing access to blood pressure screening as potentially the most effective way to reduce hypertension’s adverse toll on health,” says Dr. Rafael Castillo, currently a member of the ISH Executive Committee, and a past president of PSH. He delivered the keynote message during the launch of MMM18.

Dr. Castillo, who is the MMM country leader for the Philippines, adds that MMM18 is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Ramon F. Abarquez, Jr., PSH founding president who died early this year. Dr. Abarquez envisioned the country’s experts to be among the global leaders in pioneering advocacy campaigns, and scientific researches that can guide health officials and clinicians in stemming the tide of high blood pressure in the country.

“A sustained multisectoral approach is really necessary to increase and sustain awareness, which has been identified as the key for the success of BP-control programs in countries like Japan, Singapore, Canada and the United States,” says Dr. Alberto Atilano, current PSH president and MMM co-country leader.

He adds: “Our shared visionary goal is that by 2022—with an effective multisectoral collaboration—we shall increase BP awareness to 80 percent, treatment rate to 60 percent, and control rate to 30 percent. The bottom line is to reduce BP-related deaths by 25 percent; hence, saving around 30,000 Filipinos yearly.”

Once again this year, for the whole month of May, the PSH, together with its collaborating organizations in the Hypertension Alliance will carry out a nationwide BP screening and counseling campaign to diagnose unaware hypertensive individuals and identify those who are at risk to develop life-threatening complications like heart attack or stroke, so they could be referred for appropriate medical care.

According to Dr. Deborah Ona, also a co-country leader for MMM in the Philippines, last year, the Philippines was the global leader among more than 100 participating countries worldwide, contributing 272,000 screened individuals (22 percent) out of the pooled global data of 1.2 million. The analysis of the global paper has been analyzed by ISH experts and will be published in a prestigious international journal this month. Five Filipino hypertension specialists are included as collaborators to this global study. These are: Doctors Rafael Castillo, Carmela Napiza-Granada, Ma. Rosario Sevilla, Alberto Atilano and Deborah Ona.

The paper provides some information and insights that can help guide health officials in their respective BP-control programs.

Once the embargo on all local data are lifted after publication of the global paper, the PSH also plans to write a separate analysis on the local data. This will be published as a separate paper from the global paper.

“We also hope that health-promoting programs like MMM18 can help restore the trust of our countrymen on preventive health programs, especially for high BP and cardiovascular diseases which remain our number one killer. The public trust on preventive health programs of the government may have been partly strained and compromised because of the Dengvaxia controversy,”  says Dr. Atilano.

MMM is also in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 1761, issued on May 1, 2009 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, declaring May each year as Hypertension Awareness Month (PD 1761 attached), and enjoining governmental and nongovernmental organizations, to be major collaborators in implementing BP awareness and control programs.
