Creating a Benchmark for Volunteerism and Social Responsibility: The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®

Long before corporate social responsibility and volunteerism became a buzzword for brands and corporations, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® has already made it an intrinsic mission and company philosophy.

It’s a commitment that they took on back in 2008, when they started the Give In To Giving, 12 Cups with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® campaign, an initiative designed to share this mission with its loyal customers.
“It began by taking something that was relevant to customers at the time—the “planner craze,” if you will— and creating something more meaningful that could be an extension of our commitment as a brand to giving back. What spurred out of this intention was a Commemorative Notebook that became a medium for us, and our patrons, to support advocacies in need and share their blessings. It was and continues to be the only journal that encourages more purposeful action towards ones’ social responsibility,” explained Paolo del Rosario, Vice President for Marketing of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®.

Customers were asked to collect 12 stamps and choose from any of the 12 advocacies and organizations that The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was supporting. These ranged from women’s groups, to children, animals, the environment, indigenous people or those with disabilities and illnesses. Completing all 12 stamps meant the customer could bring home the commemorative notebook that featured artworks from contemporary Filipino artists and proceeds collected went to each customer’s chosen organization. The original artworks featured in the covers of the Commemorative Notebook were also auctioned and were donated to the charities.
The entire campaign was such a success that not only was it well received by loyal patrons; it also won numerous awards.
The following year, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® introduced its follow up with 24 Cups of Goodwill, where proceeds from the campaign were given to its 24 partner organizations. In 2010, for Changing Lives with Every Cup, they shifted their focus on sending scholars to school by partnering with Real Life Foundation and their Adopt-a-Scholar program, where the company was successfully able to send 8 scholars to university.
In 2012, they continued their efforts with the iBuild campaign, which helped raise sustainable housing solutions for impoverished families. And by 2014, they introduced the Brew Your Best Year campaign, which evolved their efforts into giving back to their loyal patrons by helping them give back to themselves as well. Through this initiative, they hope to help each person in their journey towards becoming the best version of themselves.
Their efforts through the years prove how a brand can become meaningful in addressing social change.
“It’s so much more than being well-intentioned; because at the end of the day, taking on social responsibility has to be part of a brand’s DNA,” says del Rosario.
Is it naïve to expect businesses to take on a responsibility as great as this, the way The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® did?
Not necessarily.
Companies today, locally and worldwide, are putting more focus on developing a culture of volunteerism and social responsibility—recognizing how working together can make a real difference in the community, while at the same time opening up opportunities for learning, cooperation and leadership within the organization.
What makes The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®’s efforts stand out however, is the sincerity that drives their initiatives, where they have managed to uplift the true essence of what it truly means to care.
Case-in-point, expanding annual efforts to now cover a full year of advocacies.
Consistently, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® brings people together to participate in various community outreach events. “We place great effort into putting such events together not only for the sole purpose of helping the community, but also to encourage our own Customers and Team Members to spend meaningful time bringing joy to others in an impactful and sincere way,” explains Nella Lomotan, Engagement Marketing for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf®.
These pocket initiatives, held monthly, are part of the Caring Cup series. And whether it’s a simple story telling event in a hospital, a physical fitness session with public school students, a tree planting project, an art workshop for children with disabilities, each event is designed to foster the spirit of volunteerism and giving among its participants.
In fact, last February 14, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® made sure to create an avenue to give love and receive love as they mounted the “Paint the Town Red this Valentines’ event. Volunteers spent the day of love giving love to children with disabilities at AIME home via a t-shirt painting activity with the intent of giving kids something that they will always remember.

“The Caring Cup is a way for us to expand and uphold a vision that we have long established for the company, where we hope to cultivate the spirit of volunteerism in our Community. We strongly encourage everyone who wants to be a part of something that impacts the life of others in a meaningful way to visit our stores and sign up for our next events.” ends del Rosario.

Love Dessert and Travel Bean Food Review

Our day started Wow because we are so excited to try the recipes of two resto which I have never visited. It was a Wow because all of the food where so tempting, delicious. At the end it was a Waaah because of the owner's generosity they allowed us to taste a lot of their bestseller and bring it home.

First stop Love Dessert, the location is so accessible because you can go there using public transpo and private vehicle. Pearl Drive is a famous place where people can dine in. This is the second branch which they opened last February 14. And to my surprise people really wait to be seated even if it's lunch time. Their first branch is in Q.C.
The owner's love for baking made her decide to put up a "dessert buffet" which really amazed me upon entering the resto. Buffet table filled with all the mouth-watering dessert. It was really  wow! and one thing the price is so affordable only P199.00 per person and kids with a certain height limit. You can read my whole review and the photos of the dessert at this link.

Next Stop is Travel Bean located at Falcon Street, the place is also easy to locate because the landmarks are so visible to commuters and with private vehicle. They also have a branch at Panay Ave. Q.C.
Chef Juno Ang, Chef Hac Cordero are pastry Chef but I was impressed with the comfort food they served to us. They were so warm welcoming us even the owner Ms. Gigi Apolinario. Travel Bean started as a Travel Agency and eventually opened a resto for their clients and visitors too.
The food serving is reasonable and the servings is good for 1-2 persons. Good for sharing. You can read more about my review and photos of the food at this link.

Travel Bean Coffee

Owner: Gigi Apolinario
Chef Consultants: Juno Ang, Hac Cordero
Address: 11 Falcon St., Fairview Park Quezon City

Place: The ambiance us so relaxing, because of the garden, after a days work it will remove the stress. The decoration was so unique and makes us think of travelling.
Chef Juno brief us with the history of Travel Bean and a little of her experience being a chef while and Chef Hac was so busy supervising the food that we will be reviewing.

We started with the appetizers:

Mexican Nachos – 145Php
The flavor was not the common nachos we can buy because Chef wanted something different from the food they serve.

Bacon Croquette – 110Php
My favorite appetizer, I enjoyed the melted cheese inside and theven croquette.

Bacon Dynamite – 110Php
This is usually served wrapped with lumpia wrapper but this one is wrapped in bacon. It's not that spicy because they took off some of the seeds.

Arabian Fries – 110Php
Really amazing flavor only here at Travel Bean. The taste makes you imagine you're eating somewhere in Arabia.

Followed by the Pasta:

Italian Lasagna Rolls – 220Php
A different presentation of lasagna, the taste is also delicious I told you not the common flavors.

Classic Carbonarra – 190Php
This one is my daughter's favorite, we always eat carbonara and this is one of the best one we've tasted.

Wasabi Kani Pasta – 220Php
And my favorite pasta here at Travel Bean, I love the flavor, never tasted anything like this before.
We also tasted the Back Packer’s Meal:

Angus Beef Tapa – 99Php
Wow angus beef! and the flavor is so delicious and so affordable for backpackers and students.

Lastly the Dessert:

Lava Cake : 110php
This is my sooo favorite dessert, and I almost finish one serving.

Fudge Brownies: 75php
The moist texture of the brownie is so tempting that you won't resist eating more.

Drinks served was also great

Caramel Crunch – 140php
The same at Caramel Macchiato, we'll this one tastes better because it has nutty ingredients in it.

Strawberry Iced Tea  w/ Lychee Poppin Bobba – 120Php
Like this one because of the Poppin Bobba, so exciting to drink.

Jasmine Tea -
Of course something to burn the food a hot jasmine tea.

Another exciting thing during the food review, we were given sweets to clean our taste bud after eating the food.

We had a great time thanks for the sumptuous food and warm welcome. And for my honest to goodness review, I will highly recommend Travel Bean. We would also like to thank you for the freebies. They have a branch at Panay Ave.

Thanks also Ms. Kathy Kenny Ngo @kathykenny.

Endless fun under the Philippine Sun

Who doesn't love a little fun in the sun? The beach can be a perfect way to spend the day and get some summer moments with your loved ones. Summer means sun, shorts, sandals, bathing suits, and bronzed skin. But with beach hair and shorter hemlines comes the dangers that not only instigate the probability of skin cancer, but the aging process as well. Sun exposure is, essentially, subjecting yourself to sun damage – but in the same note, avoiding the outdoors altogether is both impractical and nearly impossible.

Dermplus Moisturizing Sunblock is the answer to your skin problems this summer. It is formulated with unbeatable UVA and UVB filters to protect your skin in the harsh ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Dermplus sunblock physically blocks and reflects light and it also helps heal skin damage caused by over-exposure to the sun.  Dermplus Sunblock is available in different SPFs like SPF 24 that is recommended for morena skin and for indoor use, SPF 35 for fair skin and SPF 80 and 130 for extreme outdoor activities. Use Dermplus Moisturizing Sunblock and worry no more about the harmful Ultra Violet A (UVA) and Ultra Violet B (UVB) rays. Whether you will spend your summer in Boracay, Cebu, Palawan or in Bohol, never forget your number one sun defense partner. Dermplus Moisturizing Sunblock is also trusted by Emilio “Chieffy” Caligdong, a professional football player and the former team captain of the National Football Team.

Dermplus Moisturizing Sunblock is available in all leading drugstores, supermarkets and department stores nationwide. For more information call 817 33 03 or like us on Facebook.

In this day and age where we’re obsessed with capturing the moment and uploading our pictures online, and we can’t help but feel the need to look presentable all the time. That’s why it’s no surprise that people are becoming more fashionable, or fashown. However, when it comes to skincare, people tend to overlook this, thinking it’s easy to just cover up blemishes and wrinkles with photo editing apps. In real life though, there is no app to edit our skin, and make up can only go so far. It’s a good thing there is a natural supplement that is packed with ingredients that have been used in maintaining healthy and radiant skin.

ATC Healthcare International Corp. sought out the best grapes out there to fit into one convenient capsule – ATC Grape Seed Oil. Taking ATC Grape Seed Oil regularly may also help in lowering the level of bad LDL cholesterols in the body. It also helps relieve the pain and swelling caused by arthristis through its repairing and strengthening capacities of damaged capillaries and blood vessels. Aside from that, ATC Grape Seed Oil may help in boosting the immune system and blood circulation.
